Should pregnant women keep away from the additive red die #40?
I remember hearing about it once but can't find any recent data or info.
Thanks!

I think you may be recalling the controversy a number of years ago about red dye #2, which turned out to be a carcinogen. One of the problems with food dyes is that there are a lot of them and there's not much public information about their toxicity. We have had a tough time getting any credible information about these types of food additives. So I can't say whether these are OK or not.

In general, this is yet another reason to eat lots of healthy fruits, vegetables, and grains. That way you can steer clear of food additives, dyes, trans fats, and various environmental contaminants.
