Celery is perhaps best known as a staple in weight-loss diets, due to its low calorie and high fiber content. In fact, they say that the process of chewing celery actually burns more calories than the number consumed! Despite it's lack of calories, however, celery packs a unique flavor that can enjoyed in many different ways. The stalk is the most familiar part of the vegetable to most people, although its large bulbous root, known as celeriac, is also edible. Celery makes a delicious, crunchy snack when eaten raw or can add flavor and substance to different kinds of soup when cooked.
